Oversized coat with raglan sleeve, round shoulder silhouette and 2 part hanging lining based on MARTIN Mac from last season sized up with new collar and button front.

For the last 100 years trench coats and macs have been synonymous with London. From Portobello to Spitalfields you can find all sorts of raglan-sleeved coats and macs with an A-line silhouette. Over the years Sono's founders have collected many of them, but one stuck: it has hung in their hallway for over a decade and is still worn to walk the dog, go shopping or for any random outing. It is raglan perfection, stretched out by Simon's shoulders and Sono's overloaded shopping bags. Starting from this shape, the pattern was evolved and refined with the help of a Japanese pattern cutter close to the brand. And so the CARL Coat was born: an oversized silhouette with rounded shoulders, and the balance shifted to the front to give attitude.

The lining hangs loose, which creates less tensile stress and lets the coat be worn for many years: harder and more time-intensive to construct, but essential to the design. Two linings are used: a lightweight one in organic GOTS cotton, and a heavier one developed with a weaver in Veneto, also 100% organic GOTS cotton – a fine shirting twill, used here for pocket bags and lining. The durable twill lines the sleeves and upper body, where wear is greatest, and the lighter lining the lower half, reducing weight and pull and giving the coat more drape. The construction follows the same principles as the 90-year-old original that inspired it, made to last just as long.
