Nigel Cabourn - Army Cargo Short

This design blends elements from the US military’s M-43 and M-51 cargo pants with vintage British Army garments. Crafted from 100% cotton back satin, the fabric is notably stiff and structured—true to the original M-51, which also used pure cotton.

While its successor, the M-65, introduced a cotton-nylon blend, the M-51 remained part of the pre-synthetic fiber era. Nylon, invented in the US in 1935, didn’t become widespread in textiles until the 1950s. By the time the M-65 was adopted in 1965, nylon had gained popularity, marking a shift in military garment materials. This piece captures that transitional moment, offering a timeless look rooted in historical utility.
